Acne comedones are often referred to colloquially as “zits” or “pimples.”

Microcomedones are a less common form of acne lesion, sometimes referred to as papules. These are basically small comedones that form from localized cellular reactions to the processes that cause acne. They usually occur in clusters and are sometimes too small to see, but can be felt as a series of little bumps along the skin surface.

In more severe forms of acne, cysts, pustules and nodules and can form. A pustule is like a normal comedone, but larger due to a higher amount of dead white cells, or pus, trapped inside the plugged sebaceous follicle. Nodules are a more severe form of papules, extending deeper into the skin tissue and resulting in large raised legions that are usually inflamed, and painful to touch. Cysts are very large fluid filled sacs that can result from pustules or nodules. Though none of these forms of acne are dangerous or life threatening, they can leave scars and are sometimes very disfiguring.

What about acne causes? This is a question that scientists and doctors still haven?t been able to completely agree upon.

We see parents displaying stickers stating they are proud of their child like the “my child is an honor student” ones, and conversely the negative parody, “my kid beat up your honor student”. What you may not know is that many states have statutes prohibiting certain kinds of statements or illustrations. Is this a violation of our rights under the First Amendment? Let’s take a look at what is being said.

The U.S. Supreme Court has stated that “the government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable and the fact that protected speech may be offensive to some does not justify its suppression.”

Regardless, there have still been many situations where individuals have been cited for the language or illustrations displayed on their vehicles.

POLICE are warning bikers to beware of buying cheap goods following a break-in at a Louth motorbike store.

Crash helmets, Pro Series and RST leathers, Relentless fleeces, Berik and Spada boots, textile clothing, full suits and Fox motocross gear were all among the haul.

It is believed the thieves struck the shop in Torridon Court, Bolingbroke Road, Louth, between Wednesday June 23 and Thursday June 24.

Red carpet dash as Cruz loses specs appeal

CHOOSING which party to attend must be such a bore for celebrities these days, but some just can’t seem to get their invitations properly coordinated.

Actress Penelope Cruz confused the paparazzi when she arrived at the Specsavers Awards night at the Waldorf in London’s Aldwych to find that she was supposed to be at the premiere of the Woody Allen film Vicky Cristina Barcelona in Leicester Square.

There was a big celebrity turnout for the Waldorf event, with Rod Stewart’s girlfriend and model Penny Lancaster the star attraction. Other guests included actor Christopher Biggins and the Princess of Wales’ wedding dress designer David Emanuel.

But as we all gathered for the catwalk show, Cruz turned on her heels and headed for the Odeon’s red carpet. One of the Waldorf party organisers, Laurna O’Donnell, managing director of Beattie Communications, couldn’t resist the obvious quip in Barfly’s ear, noting: “She should have gone to Specsavers.”

More plaudits for McBain

IT SEEMS that Fiona McBain may be scouring the Yellow Pages for a carpenter some time soon. McBain, the chief executive of Scottish Friendly, picked up yet another award last week as she was named Business Leader of the Year at the Glasgow Business Awards at the Crowne Plaza hotel on Thursday night. She is a former Institute of Directors Scotland female director of the year and has also been shortlisted for its Director of the Year accolade.

“I’ve had a cabinet made for my office,” she jokes. Let’s hope it’s big enough.

Raise a glass to Glenglassaugh

BARFLY was privileged to be given a sneak preview of one of Scotland’s newest whisky projects last week, Glenglassaugh distillery near Portsoy, Aberdeenshire, which will reopen next month after being closed for 22 years.

Having paid Edrington GBP 5m for the distillery, its new owners under the leadership of Stuart Nickerson and Graham Eunson, were keen to show off some old stock of 21, 30 and 40-year-olds that they plan to release this Christmas.

With an assembled throng of whisky experts gathered for a tasting the unanimous verdict was that Glenglassaugh is one of Scotland’s great malts and will re-enter the market at the premium end. Which begs the question why on earth had previous owners Edrington mothballed it for so long? Answers on a postcard please.

Pamela Robinson passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Pikes Peak Hospice; she was surrounded by her loved ones; she was 52 years. Pamela was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was a lifelong resident of Security, Colorado. After graduating from high school, she served in the United States Navy with an honorable discharge.

She went onto graduate from Pikes Peak Community College with honors. For almost 30 years she was a cosmetologist and sales associate. She is survived by her loving husband and lifelong companion Russell G. Robinson, her son Jeffrey L. B. Gonzales, whom she called “a blessing above all blessings, and the light of her heart and life.” She is also survived by her brothers Charles, Michael, Donald, John, and Robert, sister-in-law Barbara, as well as several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Pamela Headle and her brother David. A memorial service will be held at Dove Witt, 6630 S.
